    The 30th annual celebration of student art sponsored by the Arts Council of Windham County, which took place during the month of March at the Robert H. Gibson River Garden and at Vermont Artisan Designs & Gallery 2, featured works by artists at eight public and private high schools in Windham County.  The show was judged by three area artists:  Anthony Anguiano, first prize winner for his oil painting in the Restorative Justice Art Contest, Terry Sylvester, muralist and art teacher, and Teta Hilsdon, potter and co-founder of Brattleboro Clay Works.


    On Friday, March 5th, the judges, chose artists from each school for special commentary and 8 artists over all for Best in Show Awards in various categories as follows:  CERAMICS:  Putney School student, Akira Tao for his tea set.  SCULPTURE: Putney School student Nicolas Engst-Matthews for his nuts and bolts creation. DRAWING: Vermont Academy student, Soo Ji Choi for finely detailed ball point drawings.  WATER COLOR:  Vermont Academy student, Vanessa Kang for her colorful still life.  PAINTING:  BUHS student, Madeline Conley for her untitled painting.  FIBER ARTS:  Putney School student, Elena Bo La Jeoung for her hand woven cotton Sharness.  PHOTOGRAPHY:  Putney school student, Tom Keelan for his series of miniature photos.  MIXED MEDIA:  Compass School student, Nick Momaney for his “scream” creation.


    Students honored for special commentary included Bellows Falls High School, Rachell Parrott,  Brattleboro Union High School students Hanna Mae Earley, Emily Brown, Madeline Conley, Sarah Harlow, Kayla Bailey and Ryan Gagnon-Burch.    The Compass School students chosen included Kailey Rinder and Aaron Broke de Back.

    Leland & Gray High School students honored were Johnny Pozzi, Caitlyn Oersa and Emly Misnick.  Putney School students chosen for special commentary included Tom Keelan, Juliet Monh, May Singleton-Kahn and Miles Hume.  Twin Valley High School students included Ji Sun Lee, Sarah Rubin and Joel Gonzales.  Vermont Academy students chosen for special commentary were Vanessa Kang, Soo Ji Choi and Sophie Lee.  The In-Sight Photography Project students chosen were Joey S. and Evan D.

    The students chosen for Best in Show Awards received a $25 gift certificate for art supplies at Zephyr Designs.  Support for Student Art Month is provided by grants from the Brattleboro Savings & Loan Association, C&S Wholesale Grocers Print Shop, Clear Solutions and Zephyr Designs.
